Jazz night

Rahel Talts Quartet - Fusion Jazz // Maja Mannila Trio - Soul Jazz

The Rahel Talts Quartet is a group that plays the original music of Danish-based Estonian pianist Rahel. The band's music could mainly be described as joyful, energetic, acoustic jazz fusion with some beautiful melodies and influences from bebop and tradition. Rahel likes to combine old and modern times in her music. This goes down well - after all, she was invited to take part in a mentoring program at the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy in 2021 along with 14 other young jazz musicians from Europe.

The quartet consists of Mariusz Praśniewski (Poland) on bass, Jesper Lørup Christensen (Denmark) on drums, Donatas Petreikis (Lithuania) on saxophone and Rahel Talts (Estonia) on piano. In May last year, they released their debut album "Greener Grass" and played a release tour in Denmark. They have also given several concerts in Lithuania and Estonia. The performances always leave the audience happy. When they go home, people have catchy tunes in their heads.

On this evening, the band will present music from their new album and also play some older and newer compositions by Donatas and Rahel, so a very energetic and cozy evening is guaranteed.

The Maja Mannila Trio already has an illustrious reputation on the European jazz scene. The young jazz/soul singer, pianist and composer's band became known far beyond the borders of Suomi in 2021/22 when she went on tour in Central Europe as part of pianist Iiro Rantala's new quartet Flock - Rantala is, after all, Finland's best-known and most popular jazz musician internationally. Mannila's debut album Up & Down was released in June 2022. Together with her band, which includes bassist Johannes Granroth and drummer Severi Sorjonen, she sings her own songs in English in a style that combines R'n'B, soul, jazz and gospel. She grew up in a family of musicians and has a firm grip on music, but at the same time emphasizes the importance of freedom and fun when it comes to ensemble playing. The Maja Mannila Trio was selected for the Nordic Jazz Comets international competition in 2023 to represent the latest Finnish jazz.
