"International Baltic Sea Harbor Porpoise Day" at the OZEANEUM Stralsund
Scientists from the German Oceanographic Museum will be providing information about the Baltic Sea harbor porpoise at the OZEANEUM on May 15 from 10 am to 3 pm.
Every year in May, the "International Baltic Sea Harbor Porpoise Day" is dedicated to the only species of cetacean found in the Baltic Sea.
To mark the occasion, scientists from the German Oceanographic Museum will be providing information about these marine mammals at the OZEANEUM on May 15. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to talk to the researchers.
Children can do handicrafts, paint and take part in a quiz.
For years, the German Oceanographic Museum has been dedicated to researching the harbor porpoise and its occurrence on the coasts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Less than 500 animals still live in the central Baltic Sea. The marine mammals are highly endangered due to fishing, underwater noise, environmental pollution and overfishing of food sources.
The offer is free of charge as part of the museum visit with a valid admission ticket.
