These biotopes make the Ruden nature reserve an important retreat for rare animal and plant species,
You can reach the island of Ruden by boat from Peenemünde, Karlshagen and Freest. The information center, built in 1999, is part of the Baltic Coast Nature Trail. It informs about the history of the island and the nature reserve "Peenemünde Haken" and is located in a brick tower, which belonged to the measuring base of the Peenemünde power plant.
