Forstsamendarre Jatznick

Cone storage and larch drum. In the production and exhibition manufactory of the forestry seeds kiln Jatznick, visitors experience how seeds of trees and shrubs are obtained by historical and modern procedures. A seed drying kiln is located in the village since 1923. To torrefy means to dry or roast.

Cone storage and kiln. She became necessary after the first world war, to reafforest the empty areas of the forest, which were caused by the depletion as a result of the reparation payments to France in the form of wood. The treatment and storage of forest seeds undertook the seeds drying kiln. Here, water was removed of the pre-dried cones by heat supply. This opened up the cone scales and the seeds could fall out. From 2005 to 2006 the historic kiln in Jatznick was reconstructed and expanded with a new building with the help of EU funds, national funds and sponsorship moneys. Today, seed is produced here: "From a decitonne pine cones we receive about 1.5 kilogram seeds, in which are situated over 160,000 corns", says kiln forestry office head Eberhard Behrendt. Visitors can marvel at approximately 90 tree and shrub species in a herbarium and a dozen of various plants in the dendrological garden in the forestry seeds kiln. Guided tours of the only forestry seeds kiln of the country take place regularly.
