Katzow Sculpture Park

The Katzow Sculpture Park is Europe's largest sculpture park.

The Katzow Sculpture Park is the largest in Europe with over 100 sculptures on 20 hectares. Between Greifswald and Wolgast, on the most beautiful avenue in Western Pomerania, just outside Katzow, there are sculptures by 90 artists from 23 countries. The material is mainly steel and wood. Some of the sculptures have a dead weight of 20 tons and reach a height of 18 meters. The viewer is offered a fascinating harmony between high sky, wide landscape and the sculptures, an unusual contrast to the high sky and the wide landscape in which they stand. The park is a place of art and at the same time part of the landscape. Here contemporary art becomes a direct experience. Benches designed by artists stand at prominent points. A walk-in sound funnel above a pond invites contemplation. "Two brains are better than one", "Big TAM TAM", "Sensory overload" - over 100 sculptures by renowned artists from Germany and abroad can be discovered during a walk through the sculpture park. The founder of the sculpture park is the sculptor Thomas Radeloff, who placed his first "Three Figures" on the meadow in 1991. The idea became a sustainable concept. In 1992 the 1st International Sculpture Workshop took place, which from then on became a program and enriched the Sculpture Park annually with several sculptures by domestic and foreign artists.

The Art Barn, built in 1994/95 from a demolished barn ruin, has 600 m² of exhibition space, a workshop, a hall-like gallery with an open roof truss in which up to 6 exhibitions are held annually, an individual gallery café with a store, and four guest rooms designed by artists. In the store, in addition to paintings, sculptures, ceramics, a small park guide is available. There are various workshops and courses, including painting. In spring and late fall, the traditional Easter and Christmas markets are held. With about 50 booths and pig on the spit, the sculpture park is then a popular destination with folk festival character.
