Wolgast castle Island

The palace of the dukes of Pommern-Wolgast was once on Wolgast castle island. During the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th century, a cannonball hit the powder tower of the palace and only a ruin remained, which was taken down in the 18th century. Stones from the palace ruin were used to rebuild the town after the great fire. Today, the names “castle island” and “Schlossstraße” (castle street) and the display board with explanations about the castle and its history serve as reminders of the former ducal palace.
