Island Ruden

The island of Ruden is a small nature reserve island off the northern coast of Usedom. Due to the naturally preserved flora and fauna, Ruden is a lasting experience especially for nature lovers.

Ruden served as a pilot island since the 17th century, later it was a customs station of the GDR. It has largely untouched natural landscape with sand dunes, dune and beach walls. Dune forests (pines, beeches, oaks) and dune grass, salt marshes, hud forests and brackish reeds are also present in the area. With a little luck, you can also watch the white-tailed eagle circling here. The southern part of the island is an important resting place for cormorants, cranes and wild geese during the annual bird migration. In addition to 120 breeding bird species, 250 bird species have been recorded in the area so far. The occurrence of more than 60 higher plant species endangered in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern underline the value of the nature reserve.
