Harbour island

The harbor directly on the Strelasund - the body of water that separates the Hanseatic City of Stralsund from the Island of Rügen. Here at the maritime gateway to the city, one can well imagine that Stralsund became an important trade hub as early as the 13th century due to its extremely favorable location, and for a long time it was an important transhipment point for a wide variety of goods.

Nowadays, in addition to its function as a marina and transshipment point for general and bulk cargo, the port also serves as a starting point for ferries to Hiddensee and Altefähr as well as for harbor tours.
