How to get here
Our region can be reached in many ways: by car, by train, by plane, by bike or by ship. Here you can find information about the different ways of getting here.
Arrival by car
In 2005, the motorway A20 was completed. It starts in Berlin and runs through Greifswald, Stralsund, Rostock to Lübeck. In addition, we have the A19 which starts in Berlin and runs through Güstrow to Rostock. Other motorways and highways with a clear signage can be found along the way.
Arrival by train
The train connections in Germany, including our region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, are very well developed. A trip starting from Hamburg's Central Station to Stralsund takes approximately 3 hours. From Stralsund you can take a train to the Isle of Rügen, Greifswald or the Isle of Usedom.
From Berlin East Central Station to Greifswald trains need approximately 2 h 40 min. The Usedom-Express service runs between Berlin and Heringsdorf, usually from May to September.
From Hannover Central Station to Greifswald you travel approximately 4h 30 minutes (change at Berlin East Central Station). Detailed information, timetables and tickets can be found here on the website of Deutsche Bahn.
Arrival by plane
Very cheap flights to our region can be booked with Ryanair which offers flights to Hamburg-Lübeck airport, to Berlin-Schönefeld airport and also to Szczecin airport in Poland. EasyJet flies to Berlin-Schönefeld and to Hamburg. AirBerlin serves Berlin-Tegel, Berlin-Schönefeld, Hamburg and Rostock-Laage. You can also book a direct flight to Heringsdorf on the Isle of Usedom for example from Mönchengladbach, Köln-Bonn, Münster etc. The website of Idealo offers very good price comparisons for tickets. The airport in Bergen on the Isle of Rügen is also accessible by direct flight. From the airports you can continue your journey by train (information above) or by renting a car. A number of renting companies offer their cars right at the airports. However, you can also rent your car before your arrival by using the websites of Avis, Europcar, Sixt etc..
Arrival by bike
Our region offers a large number of cycle routes. There is, for example, the Oder-Neisse cycle path from Schwedt over Löcknitz to Ueckermünde and the Ostsee-Radfernweg from Travemünde to Ahlbeck (approximately 400km). The Mecklenburg-Seenradweg from Lüneburg to the Isle of Usedom is also very popular.
Arrival by ship
From the ferry port at Sassnitz you can go to Trelleborg (Sweden), to Ronne on the Isle of Bornholm (Denmark), to Klaipeda (Lithuania) and to St. Petersburg (Russia). Additionally, there are connections between Stahlbrode and Glewitz. Information about the ferries is available on the websites of Scandlines, BornholmsTrafikken and KernaveTravel.
