Transport and Arrival

How to get here

Our region can be reached in many ways: by car, by train, by plane, by bike or by ship. Here you can find information about the different ways of getting here.

Arrival by car
In 2005, the motorway A20 was completed. It starts in Berlin and runs through Greifswald, Stralsund, Rostock to Lübeck. Also we have the A19 which starts in Berlin and runs through Güstrow to Rostock. Other motorways and highways with a clear signage can be found along the way.

Arrival by train
The train connections in Germany including our region of Mecklenburg Vorpommern are very well developed. Hamburg Central Station to Stralsund takes approx. 3 hours. From Stralsund you can take a train to the Isle of Rügen, Greifswald or the Isle of Usedom.
From Berlin East Central Station to Greifswald, approx. 2h 40 minutes. The Usedom-Express service runs between Berlin and Heringsdorf, usually from May to September.
From Hannover Central Station to Greifswald takes approx. 4h 30 minutes (change at Berlin East Central Station). Detailed information, timetables and tickets can be found here on the website of Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by plane
Very cheap flights to our region can be booked with Ryanair which is  flies to the airport Hamburg-Lübeck, to Berlin-Schönefeld and also to Szczecin in Poland. EasyJet flies to Berlin-Schönefeld and to Hamburg. AirBerlin  serves Berlin-Tegel, Berlin-Schönefeld, Hamburg and Rostock-Laage. You can also book a direct flight  to Heringsdorf on the Isle of Usedom for example from Mönchengladbach, Köln-Bonn, Münster etc. Using the website of Idealo you can make a good price comparison. The airport in Bergen on the Isle of Rügen is also accessible by direct flight. From the airports you can continue your journey by train (information above) or you can rent a car. Great renting companies are situated at the airports. You can rent for example with Avis, Europcar, Sixt etc..

Arrival by bike
Our region offers a large number of cycle routes. There is, for example, the Oder-Neisse cycle path from Schwedt over Löcknitz to Ueckermünde and the Ostsee-Radfernweg from Travemünde to Ahlbeck (approx. 400km). The Mecklenburg-Seenradweg from Lüneburg to the Isle of Usedom is also very popular.

Arrival by ship
From the ferry port at Sassnitz you can go to Trelleborg (Sweden), to Ronne on the Isle of Bornholm (Denmark), to Klaipeda (Lithuania) and to St. Petersburg (Russia). Additionally, there are connections between Stahlbrode and Glewitz. Information about the ferries is available on the websites of Scandlines, BornholmsTrafikken and KernaveTravel.

We wish you a safe journey and we look forward to welcoming you in our region!
