Strelasund & Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft

The Legendary Lucky Bird

Look down and you may find some pieces of amber along the shorelines, look up and you can be sure to see birds sailing in the heavenly breeze. Observe the dancing cranes, which, according to Japanese belief, are lucky birds because they are said to live for a thousand years. Crane migration has always fascinated nature lovers.

The National Park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" is the largest resting place for the cranes of Central and Northern Europe. Every spring and autumn, thousands of these birds cross our region and stop in the national park on their way to or from the south. These graceful birds are always a pleasure to watch.

There are countless leisure opportunities. Go for relaxing walks by the Strelasund. Take hiking or cycling tours along the picturesque Bodden coast. Or discover wide meadows, forests and fields. Water activities such as fishing, sailing or windsurfing are just as popular as day trips to the historic towns of the area. Wherever you decide to go, there is art and culture all around you, for example Granitz castle on the Isle of Rügen. Tranquillity, nature and culture will make your vacation unforgettable.
