Unique Holidays Between Mecklenburg and Vorpommern

Travel up or down the River Peene or cycle along its banks. You will be rewarded with fascinating insights into the world of our birds, both large and small, when you visit Marlow Bird Park on the westside of the Recknitz Valley.

The Recknitz Valley and the Trebel Valley are situated between Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald. This region is often lovingly referred to as "Little Thuringia" because of its hilly surroundings. Here, at the former border between Mecklenburg and Vorpommern, you won't find large tourist centres. Instead, a beautiful coastline, Mecklenburgian lakes and impressions of unspoilt nature will make your vacation unforgettable. The old wooden draw-bridge at Nehringen marks the former border that once divided Vorpommern and Mecklenburg. Nature plays an important role in both the Recknitz and the Trebel Valley. You certainly will be enchanted by the local flora and fauna in your own discovery walks around the region. Furthermore, hills and forests, old village churches, golden rape fields and many little lakes give our region its special flair. It's an excellent place for cycling, horse riding or boating. Words such as pristine, diverse or unspoiled only just begin to describe how magnificent the landscape in this region is. Festivals and numerous events take place in the village of Stremlow throughout the year. Go and watch some of the local sport events such as the bath tub regatta or the gumboot throwing contest. History is lovingly revived here with a good dose of humour. Don't forget to visit the Salt Museum telling the history of salt in our region. Visit the town of Grimmen, whose old city centre has many heritage sights worth exploring. And in the town of Tribsees you must visit St Thomas' Church dating back to the 13th century, magnificent!
