| Various national parks shape the character of our region. The national parks "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft", "Jasmund", and "Müritz" in the neighbouring Mecklenburg are of particular importance for the natural balance of our region. Away from busy cities, those beautiful districts are still intact and are the home of many rare animals and plants.

| | "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" The Bodden waters are shallow parts of the Baltic Sea surrounded by land with only a very narrow connection to the sea. The salinity is lower than in the Baltic Sea, because of the rainwater that often drains directly into the Bodden. The National Park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" has a size of 80.500 ha and includes the area between Darss, Zingst, Hiddensee, and the western part of the Isle of Rügen. | It is Germany's largest national park by the Baltic Sea and aims to protect the natural environment as well as flora and fauna. Visitors can explore the park individually or on guided tours.
|
| | Jasmund National Park The national park "Jasmund" is located on the east coast of the Isle of Rügen, has a size of 3.000 ha and includes moist and dry meadows, moors, beech woods, and the famous chalk cliffs so beautifully portrayed by Caspar David Friedrich. Go hiking in the national park and see the beautiful landscape. The impressive scenery attracts many visitors. |
| | Müritz National Park This national park is characterised by Lake Müritz, numerous other lakes and large forests. 65% of the 318 km² area are covered by woods and there are around 100 lakes. Because of the sparse population density of this area, the pristine environment has been preserved and is inhabited by a great variety of local plants and animals. Following the marked trails which lead through the national park, the visitor can | see the dancing cranes, the legendary lucky birds. |
