The Ueckermünde Lagoon Museum [Haffmuseum Ueckermünde] is one of the most important sights of the city Ueckermünde. It is located in the castle near the harbour. Among other things, the museum exhibits prehistoric, early historic and mediaeval finds and tells the history of the city. The German Oceanographic Museum comprises four different museums at attractive locations. You can learn about nature in the Natureum Darßer Ort near Prerow, about fishing technology and oceanography in the Nautineum Dänholm near Stralsund. The exhibition MeeresWelten [SeaWorlds] on the harbour island in Stralsund tells you everything about the sea and, finally, there is the Meeresmuseum [Oceanographic Museum] in Stralsund the features of which include a 5m coral reef, a 15m long finback whale skeleton, a 6m giant squid, the legendary leatherback turtle and Germany's only 350.000 litre aquarium housing giant turtles and smaller sharks. The oldest museum of local history can be found in Anklam. It is located in a 32 meters high gate lodge, one of the most beautiful town gates in the Northern Germany. On five floors, there are exhibitions about the life by the river Peene and in the Hanseatic city. Also in Anklam, there's the Otto-Lilienthal Museum which shows everything about the life of the engineer and pioneer Otto Lilienthal who was the first man ever to fly. The Sculpture Park of Katzow, situated between Wolgast and Greifswald, is also a great place to visit; it features 54 sculptures by various artists. Other museums worth seeing are the museum at Peenemünde, the Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald, Museum Prora on the Isle of Rügen and the Ukranenland.
