Torgelow

Torgelow is located in the middle of the Ueckermünder Heide, surrounded by lush greenery, and thus offers ideal for prerequisites hiking and biking tours through the enchanting landscape.

The location at one of the narrowest river crossing points was extremely favorable for the exchange of goods with the German peoples immigrating at that time, which is very aptly described by the name Torgelow, which comes from the Slavic, meaning "trading place".

In medieval times, Torgelow belonged to the Electorate of Brandenburg for a long time. In 1493, however, it was annexed to the Duchy of Pomerania. Even today, the medieval times, the stories and legends about the nobleman Zacharias Hase zu Kufstein are remembered at town festivals. He once ruled the Torgelow district until he was finally expelled from the country as a robber baron.

You can get an insight into the Slavic times of Western Pomerania in the Ukranenland Torgelow. Huts made of clay and historic boats take you back to the time of the Ukrans. The river Uecker flows through Torgelow. At the boat rental you can rent various canoes and motorboats and explore the landscape from the water side. On a tour of Torgelow, you will also pass the Christuskirche church. The neo-Gothic church was built in the 19th century and impresses with its large colored chancel windows and the southernmost Mehmel organ. Bathing fun can be found at the Erlebnis- und Heidebad Torgelow. With a 55m giant slide, young and old alike can be entertained.
