The Hanseatic town Anklam is the birthplace of the aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal.Otto Lilienthal Museum, holder of many awards, tells the tale of how the technical history of aviation became human flight's cultural history. The exhibits include eight flying machines built by Lilienthal (replicas), other model constructions, some of the functioning replicas or Lilienthal's aerodynamic test facilities. The section "The Dream of Flying" shows imaginative flights of fancy and other constructions incapable of making it off the ground. The museum also includes an experimental area, an archive, a library and a museum shop.
