Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde

In the Peenemünde Army Research Centre the first rocket was launched beyond the earth's atmosphere in 1942.

The Peenemünde Army Research Centre was one of the world's most advanced technology centres between 1936 and 1945.This is where the first rocket was launched beyond the earth's atmosphere in 1942. But from its inception, the research was focused on a different goal: to create military supremacy by means of advanced technology. Subsequent mass production of the rocket in such a short time was only possible through the use of slave labourers, prisoners of war and those interned in concentration camps. Together with the historical development, the exhibition focuses on ethical ambivalence in the use of state of the art technology; it is on show in the largest technical monument in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
