Fishing Port Wieck

Wieck is one of the oldest fishing villages in Northern Germany and is closely connected with the monastery in Eldena. The fishing port was already at that time an important outer harbour, on the river Ryck, for the city of Greifswald.

The listed fishing village Wieck is located directly on the Bay of Greifswald. The landmark of the village is the Wieck bascule bridge, built after the Dutch model. Especially fishing is still omnipresent here. Whether fish rolls, typical regional fish dishes or more unusual creations - a wide range of culinary delicacies opens up for the lover. Along the river Ryck, which flows into the bay here, there are numerous fishing boats, yachts and sailing ships, which underline the maritime flair of the place. The beautiful promenade, where you will find wooden sculptures by international and local artists, and the direct beach location also invite you to take long walks. As a district of the Hanseatic town of Greifswald, there are numerous entertainment possibilities and destinations for excursions also outside the fishing village.

Fishing Festival Gaffelrigg

Traditionally, the fishing festival "Gaffellrigg" takes place on the 3rd July weekend in the Hanseatic town of Greifswald. It is the largest maritime folk festival in Vorpommern and offers its guests not only numerous entertainment possibilities but also the eponymous gaff rig with traditional and museum ships as well as a colourful supporting programme.
