Vorpommern, with its many lakes, rivers and the Baltic Sea is a unique angler's paradise. The waters of the area are famous for their abundance of fish. The most popular kinds of fish you're sure to catch here are cod, flounder, herring, zander, bass, perch, pike and carp.

The many lakes and rivers in Vorpommern as well as the Baltic Sea are great fishing districts and there are many boat rentals. In the Strelasund bay between Greifswald and Stralsund, fishing is possible almost all year round because of its favourable location. These waters are well known for pike and herring.

Hornfish can be caught during a short period in spring, usually between May and June. Anglers must be in possession of a valid rod licence and a permission to fish in the waters of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Short time licences valid for the time of your stay can be obtained in local fishing shops, garages and from the fishermen in charge. Please bear in mind that you are required to follow the

regulations protecting the fish stocks. If all of these conditions are met, your hopefully successful fishing day can begin. The best fishing places are not always easy to find and the local fishermen will hardly reveal them to a tourist. In the case of absolute failure, there are many nice fish restaurants serving a variety of local fish dishes.
